About

The IDR is a 10-month residency program running from August through May. Created for this college aged generation of believers, we will provide training in life skills, spiritual disciplines, biblical thought, practical theology and vocational discernment. Watch the video to the right for more information.

Life Skills

Live in community with other interns from August to May. Improve your communication skills, learn how to work through conflict, and live independently.

Spiritual Disciplines

Grow by participating in a one on one discipleship relationship. Learn and practice the spiritual disciplines of prayer, Bible study, scripture memory, fasting, and rest.

Practical Theology

Learn how to serve others. Practice what it means to be a contributing church member.

Biblical Thought

Learn to read, understand, and obey scripture. See how scripture is relevant today and how it impacts your life here and now. Be trained to use scripture to make decisions in your life.

Vocational Discernment

Identify your spiritual gifts and how they can be used for the Church. Through a variety of resources, discern and develop vocational interests and skills.  In addition, you can attend Cuesta, Cal Poly, or online school to further your education.

Don’t just take our word for it!

Hear from our past interns:

Jessie 2024-2025

This internship was a truly impactful experience. It allowed me to connect with an incredible community and gave me a behind-the-scenes look at what ministry really is, as well as seeing the heart of the church in action. Through it all, I grew in my walk with the Lord, learned to serve with purpose, and formed deep friendships that I know will last a lifetime!

Izzy 2025-2026

This year taught me that true community is about walking alongside one another as we grow closer to Jesus. Through serving in kids ministry, building meaningful friendships, and learning from mentors, I discovered that God works through willing hearts rather than perfect people. I learned the importance of relying on God and others instead of trying to carry everything on my own. Most importantly, I realized that the church is not a building but a family of believers helping each other walk toward our eternal home.

Krystie 2024-2025

The IDR program taught me how to place roots in a Christ-centered community. I gained a greater understanding of the importance of local ministry and the different ways in which the "big C" Church comes alongside its people, and I learned how to lean in to the Lord amidst the joys and the hardships. I am grateful for the countless conversations surrounding God, the friendships that have built me up, and the memories that will continue to be made here at ABC!

Frankie 2024-2025

The intentional discipleship residency program showed me what it means to be in community with other young adults who love Christ. My favorite part was diving deep into the Word and having a better idea of who God is!
